Wednesday June 23, 2021 - Smash Burger Night!!

Well today was a little chillier then usual, actually this whole week has been - but that just means that the Park is extra-quieter. This week is my first week traveling back and forth to work from Fairbank, which means I leave by 6am and typically am back around 5pm (with usual pit stops for last minute remember-errands and/or stopping in at home for a quick hot shower 😊).

So this evening we didn't do much, actually most weeknights this week - we haven't done much. But that's what relaxing is all about - and we've been enjoying it!! Don't get me wrong, Chris is still doing stuff on our site throughout the day, in-between his naps 😏 - life is beautiful.

So before we started dinner... we ventured out to enjoy some of Fairbank's beauty -

Sometimes it's the little things...
...and this little reminder was "picked" for me πŸ’“πŸŒΌ

...ok it's time to head back...

Tonight's blog focus is about the famous Smash Burgers - They were SO delicious we even had the Park Ranger join us for a burger!!

Now for ...

Smash Burgers on a Wednesday Night!

RULE #1 make sure your ground beef is NOT lean!
You need juices, and so it's BEST to get Medium!

Rule #2 - ONLY Smash burgers once, and ONLY on the First Side!
Once you flip them, leave them alone.

Also, depending on what you are using to "smash" your burgers -
you might want to include some parchment paper (so things don't stick!).

We absolutely LOVE our Blackstone Griddle!

If you want cheese, add cheese...

For our burger buns, we've been buying these Ace Bakery BriochΓ© Gourmet Buns -
and they're perfect!

We butter them up and add them to the griddle -
this doesn't make them soggy... it actually toasts them and adds flavor!

As you can see, we cover our Smash Burgers to keep in some of the heat -
and assist with melting the cheese.

Almost ready - and believe me,
these beauties don't take long to make!

Bam, Smash Burger with a side salad...
Perfect Wednesday Dinner!
Thank you Chris πŸ” 😊

What is a Smash Burger and SHOULD you ever SMASH a burger?!
Answer is YES!!

Saturday June 19, 2021 - Fishing Day/Evening

Today we woke up super relaxed and decided, why not take advantage of the beautiful weather (and no winds) and go fishing! ...but first we make coffee!! And if coffee doesn't wake you - the cool morning air on the water will!

Chris guiding us on Fairbank Lake.

I'm (Tammy) very grateful to have this man with me today and have him walking - with both legs! As some of you know, Chris caught on fire back in February - but that's a whole other blog post... for another day!

Today, the weather is perfect. Our campsite is completely shaded - we sit beneath a canopy of tree, actually pretty beautiful!... and again, another blessing in disguise. Given Chris' situation, his wounds can't be exposed to sunlight or UV for too long. ...and so yes he's wearing under armor under his shorts which are UV protectant and helps keep his wounds covered & protected. Again, I digress...

As we started off our morning adventures, we found a small spot that had data... and for those of you who know Fairbank Provincial Park, you know you're coming here to chill and catch up on social media - the data coverage is next to nil. So I decided to post this photo of Chris and I on the boat.

Hahaha, the comments were as I'd expected: "Geez Chris at least pretend like you're having fun and smile a little?!" was the consensus. Well little did everyone know, Chris actually wasn't having such a great morning - things didn't seem to be working out as he'd expected, but he was still holding strong and kept us fishing. Today was my first fishing adventure out on the water this year.

All I kept reminding him was, "I'm enjoying this. And, we have all summer...!"

Fishing is truly an art. You have to be "in the mood" otherwise, just like you would with a painting, writing a story, singing a song - if you're not feeling it you won't be satisfied and nothing will ever be "right".

When you're fishing, expect nothing but some good old R&R, and no not Rock & Roll, but some Rest & Relaxation.

Once you start actually chillin' and just be - then there's no need to try to hold a conversation, no need to keep checking your every move, no need to keep moving around... you just chill.

Allow the views to capture your imagination. Invite the breeze to cleanse your surroundings and hopefully keep most of the bugs at bay! And embrace the sunshine and convert it into some vitamin D!

Did we catch anything during our morning - till mid-afternoon fishing adventure, no. Well, actually Chris did catch a small bass, but given that he's strictly a Walleye-guy there ain't no way he's keeping anything but!

We were on the water just a little after 9:15am, like I said we had a slow start to our morning - and weren't in any rush! However given we didn't bring anything with us but water to drink, by 4pm our bellies were pretty empty - well at least mine was!! So we decided to head back to freshen up and grab a bite to eat!

Once we arrived at the boat launch, an older gentleman was arriving at the same time we were - funny thing was he launched this morning at the same time too! Given that Chris has a knack of chatting things up with random older fellas, this particular situation didn't phase me.

Within minutes they were standing there exchanging fishing stories and showing-off photos... meanwhile, I'm sitting on the dock - holding the boat!

And so doing what I do, I grabbed a few photos cause sometimes my brain needs a reminder of how beautiful moments actually are/were. Instead of being frustrated and getting impatient - I've learned to embrace these small moments, take time to look around me and just breath it all in - and what might have seemed like an eternity before, now feels like a very brief moment.

And so we head on back to our campsite and enjoyed a wonderful dinner! I gotta remember to take more food photos!! My brother-in-law told us he made a whole chicken on the Blackstone griddle... and so challenge accepted - we did one too, and it turned out amazing!! I would have never thought we'd be able to cook a whole chicken on a grill - but believe me, it can be done!

Like I said, I'll remember (or at least try to) to take more camp-food photos!

So now it's almost 7pm and we've decided to come out again - but this time there's this big grey cloud and we're not sure if it's coming or going ... so we decided to still give it a-go and, just wing it.

This particular photo is the "after comments" from this morning's photo! lol
We're both SMILING!!

Bye bye grey clouds and hello beautiful evening skies and ...here I am catching some sunshine!

And here's Chris with the beauty sunset at his back.

Tonight was a beauty evening for fishing! There were boats out everywhere - one particular unit with two handsome young fellows... got caught encroaching into our fishing area! (wink wink) [We found Braeden and Nolan.]

Again, no walleye but I did get a nice Bass show! It came up, splashed while I reeled it in, and just as it approached the boat, it jumped out again and - basically spit my lure back at me and elegantly swam away! Such as show-off!!

As the moon present itself to us, we decided it's probably time to head on back!
Until next time, Fairbank... Goodnight!

Tips for Hanging Picture Frames and Framed Art

To See Visual Examples and Explore more options, visit my one of my Pinterest boards:
http://pinterest.com/tammymathieu

General Hanging Tips

  • Always hang frames at eye level, 59" or 150cm from the floor
  • If you have a large wall and several frames to arrange, arrange the frames on the floor, this will let you easily re-arrange the frames until you get the look you want
  • Once you have your desired layout, you can then measure the spaces between the frames and hang one frame at a time on the wall
  • Try mixing wall hung frames with a few shallow ledges with frames resting on the ledges and leaning on the wall

Positioning a Picture Over a Sofa

  • When handing a frame over a sofa, try not to leave too much space between the sofa and the frame
  • 3-6" (8-16cm) is ample ~ too much space will disconnect the frame from the rest of the room and look awkward
  • Never choose a single picture that is wider than the couch, this will create an imbalance that is distracting

Positioning Frames for a Gallery Effect

  • To create a museum or art gallery effect, hang a group of frames with the center of all frames at eye level, about 59" (150cm) up from the floor
  • This works best with a series of large frames, regardless of size
  • TIP: for added interest try alternating vertical and horizontal frames

Symmetrical Framed Arrangements

  • Arranging an equal number of large and small frames together in a mirrored fashion is most commonly used in more formal or traditional decorating styles
  • TIP: combine pictures that have a similar theme or subject matter
  • TIP: you could display 2 large, wide matted frames equally spaced apart over symmetrically balanced furniture or use 1 large frame over the middle of a sofa with 3 smaller frames on each side to create a 7 piece collection

Asymmetrical Framed Arrangements

  • A collection of different sized frames can look great together on a wall if the frames all have a similar look (same colour or moulding style, etc.)
  • Grouping large and small frames together in both horizontal or vertical placements to create an interesting and dynamic arrangement
  • TIP: combine pictures that have a similar theme or subject matter
  • TIP: you could display all your old photos together, or pictures of your children

Hanging Frames in Pairs

  • TIP: when hanging two large pictures together, try lowering one frame and raising the other frame so the tops and bottoms don't line up for a more pleasing effect

Remove YOUR Desire and Replace it with Fire!

First off I'd like to thank my girlfriend for introducing me to this wonderful eMeditation Message!  And then another thank you goes out to Vic Johnson for creating and sharing these beautiful messages!
"People do not attract that which they want, but that which they are."  - As A Man Thinketh

To put it another way: When you stop working on what it is you're trying to get, and start working on YOU, only then will you get what it is you want.

Now for my 2-cent....

Life is all about the journey. The journey includes experiences and these experiences infiltrate our thought process and create "beliefs".

For example: I believe that when I touch a pot with boiling hot water I will get hurt / pain. This thought process comes to mind either because you've experienced it; seen it; or were thought it.

The same goes for "visuals". I believe "fat | out of shape" people are {insert your beliefs here} <-- and then ask yourself "why" do you think that?

  • Could it be because "society" made you believe this?
  • Could you believe this because 'someone' told you something about people (like that) and it made you feel a certain way and so you don't want anyone else to "view" you the way that person made you feel?
  • Could it be that when you "pick out" certain people who "match" your perception of that belief - it triggers an emotion inside you? (Makes you feel vulnerable? Makes you feel weak? Strikes a chord with childhood memories.... Maybe something an adult said (when you were a child) that you never forgot or really understood...)

Whatever the case maybe, remember that WE can't change anyone else but ourselves.

And if there's something external to us (something we feel, see, or do) that triggers things inside us (good OR bad) all we can do is ask ourselves: "Why do I believe this to be true (or not true)?"

Whenever we question our belief system, we challenge our thoughts to "do some work".
And when our thoughts are... working... this is where/when we tend to allow new-changes (thought processes; ways to view things; understand things; see things differently) to be presented to us.

So ask yourself: What is it that I’m trying to “be” and why?
And then… stop “wanting” to be it, and just “be” it.

Remove YOUR Desire and Replace it with Fire!

If it doesn't Challenge you, It won't change You.

Some of you, you probably heard me talking about going to Arizona (for the 2013 Heritage Makers Conference) and… then changing my mind and not going anymore –
And now… I’m going again! J

I’ve been battling myself for quite some time now and have formally made a decision - I’m going to Arizona!!

The below isn’t so much an explanation for anyone but more of a journaling note of my inner-thoughts for me (and since you are such wonderful people who [I know] enjoy learning, I am sharing with you for Personal Development purposes).

My battle was all internal (emotions of guilt, negative self-talk, feeling of lack, fear of unknown) – and yesterday I had an ah-ha moment! of – Girl you gotta do it!
I read about it, I talk about it and now is my turn to do it.

I made a decision to make the formal decision yesterday and to stop looking back and thinking about it.
I was completely frustrated and confused – and “had” decided that I wasn’t going and I made the call to tell my rep.
Internally I was upset about it – emotion – however my logic was telling me that this was “for the better good” and that I’ll get over it.

…which really didn’t help me – but obviously confirmed my frustration of indecision.

Why was I so indecisive? Had I really made a decision and …was it the right one?
Why hadn’t I cancelled anything? Why am I battling this decision?

I told my rep I was feeling really confused and frustrated and I shouldn’t be feeling like this – making a decision to go should be easy!
She agreed and that was that! I wasn’t going…

But then she started talking about ‘stuff’ and I got all frustrated again – about going and figured out that this was because I was going against my inner-gut.
Everything in my “being” is telling me to go, I can see myself there, I can see myself benefiting from it, I feel good about it…
But my logic screams in my head: “really? Do you really think you should go? How selfish of you – taking up a whole week by yourself and spending money to boot!! There are so many other things you could do – as a family! Who do you think you are? If my spouse wanted to do this, how would you feel – would you just let him go?! I don’t think so!...” blah blah blah…

So I am sick to my stomach excited – and am stepping out of my ego and fears and inflicting Change with Love!

My message (light bulb moment) from up-above is ask for help and allow myself to receive it.
I LOVE helping others and can GIVE unconditionally but when my turn comes, there is where I hit a brick wall and voices get really loud (in my head).

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” ~ Matthew 7:7

I’ve lived this SEVERAL times in my lifetime – and so this is GOD knocking on my heart and telling me to “let go” and to just “believe”, again!

Ask, Believe and Receive – Let go of the “other” stuff and just allow the Universe to do its work and this is where Change / New Beginnings happen (internally)!

Today’s Message is for my inner-self:

1) Be impeccable with your word: I had originally said I was going – I have to stick to my “guns” and do what I say (listen to myself).
2) Don’t take anything personally: I was originally going with a local girlfriend however due to circumstances she’s no longer going and I can’t take “her” situation on.
3) Don’t make assumptions: Hello?! I live here!! I am letting go of the logic of this situation and am walking forward – into faith.
4) Always do your best: I have to give myself credit where credit is due – and know that I am doing my best (right in this moment).
